Giant Pumpkins Update – 77 Days in the Ground
Hi there pumpkin growers, just another update to show where the three pumpkins I have are up to. Things seem to be going along ok, the biggest of the three is at the same point as last years pumpkin at the same time, hopefully it beefs up more soon.

49 Days in the ground
Hi there, the plants have been in the ground for 49 days so far, and it has been a total of 80 days since the seeds have been planted. This is about the time I am going to think about using a higher phosphate fertiliser,and start thinking about shade protection for the pumpkins.
Due to the conditions and the location, they haven’t had much water, but seem to be doing really well. There are currently 6 small pumpkins forming, 3 on each plant.

22 days in the ground
The two plants have been in the ground for 22 days since being transplanted there. The US seed is doing really well, and on a whole they seem to be coping with the lack of water.
On Wednesday, we are getting in a tank load of water, I have a feeling it wont be the only one this season we will need.

Soil PH Testing
One of the first things you can do before even planting your seed/seedling is to make sure the soil you are using is going to be the best. To check this, a PH test kit is essential.
There are many different types out there, and they all produce similar results. Check out this video to see the one I got, and how easy it is to test your soil.
The test kit in the video cost roughly $18 from Bunnings and is enough to do 30 tests.
